Arrive to prom in style

Each year there is a specific color that overtakes all of the rest and this year it was the timeless Hollywood red shade. Looking out among the crowd of teenagers, it looked like a sea of red dresses. A majority of these dresses were the tight fitted, otherwise known as mermaid-style which is an extremely flattering shape. Another part of this dress that was in every single group of teenagers is the split leg skirt… this was perhaps the most prominent trend throughout all of the varied dresses. The split allows girls to have more movement for dancing and still adds an appealing design to the dress and proved to be a beloved aspect of this year’s prom attendees.

The mermaid style was not the only prominent one at the dance or throughout pictures. This flowy A-line style of dress allows for easy movement for dancing through the night on the limo or party bus and on the dance floor. This specific dress also has a deep cut v-line to add a more mature look to the overall dress since it is not tight fitted throughout. At the dance there were several dresses with this style, but not only in the black color shown here. Among the sea of red were dots of black that added contrast to the Gatsby theme at prom. This color was also an enormous part of the sea because it was what majority, if not all, of the boys, wore to match their dates. The boys rocked the all black suit and tie look for pictures and the dance, but there were still a few that decided to try the grey tuxedo which looked classy with a navy dressed date.

To go along with the red-themed dresses came a large number of maroon ones that not only represented the Wakefield colors but also a unique take on the shade of red. One would expect to see red dresses as a classic look, but maroon added a variety that was more one of a kind. The wine color compliments a large spectrum of skin colors, which is also why it would be an important favorite among teenagers. Two more parts of this dress are the two-piece design and the tissue paper skirt, both of which serve as trendy structures of prom dresses for the past several years.

Back to black with prom dresses as the previous black dress showed the flowy style, this dress showcases the tight fitting style that was one of the most popular ones this year as opposed to previous years. Of course the color black is a slimming shade, which is why it is more times than not the dominating color for teenage girls and it did approach the popularity of red but did not overtake it. On this specific dress, there is a cascading train following it and the Bardot top/off the shoulder styled top were among a favorite at prom. There is a certain aspect of elegance about the Bardot sleeve neckline that would add maturity to the look but the mermaid styled skirt keeps the dress fun and fashionable.

This dress displays the pale sky shade of blue that was a less notorious shade but stood out among the sea of warm colored dresses. This cool toned blue added a twist on several groups as the girls’ dresses were similar to this style with the flowy skirt which also contradicted the trending mermaid skirts. This shade of blue also complimented the different skin tones that it played on to offer a glow from within look to those. It is so aesthetically pleasing to see the sea of red and black with the pops of baby blue that offered the variety necessary to make the Gatsby theme more well rounded overall.
