The Howler



The Howler at Wakefield High School is a diverse group of student journalists working diligently to provide unbiased and accurate news coverage to the students and faculty at wakefield and to the surrounding community. We strive not only to inspire thought-provoking conversations about deeper issues affecting those around us but to also give a voice to the voiceless.

Open Forum for Student Expression

The Howler newspaper is a public forum for student expression. Our student writers and editors make content decisions without interference from school officials, unless these decisions are unlawful or seriously disruptive. See the Student Press Law Center for more information.

Awards Earned

The Howler newspaper is a proud recipient of North Carolina Scholastic Media Association’s Tar Heel award for the following years for online news:  2021, 2019 and 2016.

How to submit to The Howler

Wakefield is a vibrant, diverse community, and we would be thrilled to include your voice in our paper. The Howler accepts editorial articles for the Opinions section.

Articles are usually 400 to 800 words, but submissions of any length can be considered. Submissions may be sent by email to [email protected].
