Mission
The Howler at Wakefield High School is an award-winning group of student journalists working diligently to produce engaging and relevant news coverage to the Wakefield community. We strive to involve the spirit of our community through our reporting and inspire thought-provoking conversations amongst our audience.
Open Forum for Student Expression
The Howler newspaper is a public forum for student expression. Our student writers and editors make content decisions without interference from school officials, unless these decisions are unlawful or seriously disruptive. See the Student Press Law Center for more information.
Awards Earned
The Howler newspaper is a proud recipient of North Carolina Scholastic Media Association’s Tar Heel award for the following years for online news: 2022, 2021, 2019 and 2016.
How to submit to The Howler
Wakefield is a vibrant, diverse community, and we would be thrilled to include your voice in our paper. The Howler accepts editorial articles for the Opinions section.
Articles are usually 400 to 800 words, but submissions of any length can be considered. Submissions may be sent by email to [email protected].
