Last Friday the Wakefield Football team played their Homecoming game with division opponent Broughton. Prior to the game, Coach Sink shared his impression of the upcoming match-up.  Sink shared his goals for the game noting that special teams and offense would be key.

“We know that we need to focus a lot more on special teams and on offense,” said Sink.   “We really want to try to open up the running game more.”

Sink also shared how being the home team is advantageous for players when they are down.

“We typically are a better home team, and you know when you’re down and the crowd kind of gets behind you and lifts you up it makes it easier for our players to get back into the game,” said Sink.

The hype for the game started during school Friday with the annual Pep Rally. The music was loud, the performances were exciting and everybody left the gym hyped and ready to watch the Wackos take down the Caps later that day.

The noise coming from the student section during the first half sounded more like  a crowd of 100,000 cheering on their home team. To say the least the fanfare was deafening. The Wolverines put on an impressive show in the first half, quickly racking up scores and eventually ending the first half up 34-16.

However the second half was when things started to go bad for the Wolverines. Broughton’s defense shined as they held Wakefield to a paltry three points while they themselves scored twenty-one, sending the game to overtime. Thanks in part to the home crowd the Wackos were able to slip into the end zone while also shutting the Caps down on defense, ending the game in the first overtime 44-37.
