To many people, the life of a psychic sounds like a dream come true.  But this is not the case for 16-year-old Saiki Kusuo, who dreams of living an entirely normal life. Normal teenagers navigate the struggles of high school, such as making friends, maintaining grades and balancing extracurriculars. Saiki, on the other hand, is never too concerned about the issues that plague his classmates. Through all odds, Saiki consistently finds himself in strange situations, making unexpected friends and learning to value what he has.

My favorite episode is the fifth episode of the first season because it highlights many of these key aspects. In the first half of the episode, Saiki attempts to avoid his friends and their plans to hang out with him at all costs. He does this while avoiding spoilers for a TV show, which does not go quite as planned. In the second half, Saiki is dragged to his school’s sports day after attempting to skip. Saiki struggles to blend in with the other students while competing. His goal was to look as normal as possible through comedically limiting his abilities.  The slice-of-life elements and comedy blend to make this episode a highlight for me.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K is a wonderfully comedic show filled with a fun and quirky cast of characters. Regardless if viewed in sub or dub, the voice acting and quality is phenomenal and capture the whimsy and special quirks of Saiki K and its supporting cast. This show is a must-watch for anyone looking for a laugh and a good time!
