On April 16, Nintendo released Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. This game is the sequel to Tomodatchi Life, which was featured mainly on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has received insane popularity for its great gameplay and customization. It has a similar game design to Nintendo’s popular series, Animal Crossing, but with more opportunities to make it your own. This showstopper of a game is one of the last releases to be supported by the Nintendo Switch, mainly because Nintendo intends to focus on the new Nintendo Switch 2.

When it was released, many people were hesitant to buy, believing the $60 price tag was risky. Ride-or-die fans of the series quickly alleviated fears by posting content online in droves. As of now, its physical launch was massively successful worldwide. Nintendo has sold a total of 565,405 copies worldwide just within the release week.

While the numbers let you infer the game’s popularity, it lacks in showcasing the great features of gameplay. This new release has what Tomodachi Life lacked: complete customization. The player also can design their island layout, an entirely unique feature for this installment of the franchise. Users may move around the different shops, terraform, create pathways, landscape and place exterior furniture. Additionally, a new shop was put in. Lovingly named “The Palette House”, this brand-new establishment adds depth to gameplay. Inside, players can utilize their creativity to the fullest. They can create items, foods, rooms and so much more. It is limited only by imagination, which allows for versatile gameplay.

It is an industry standard for the user to create Miis (pronounced MEE), small humanoid avatars. These icons are limitless; they can be anything and anyone. The game supports 70 unique Miis per save file. While charming, they are not just little figures who stand around. Miis interact with their surroundings, talk with other Miis, and have needs taken care of by the user. The player can gift them things, such as food or clothes. If a Mii likes a gift, it boosts their mood and eventually makes them level up. Leveling up unlocks traits, items or even phrases. This makes consumers attached to these characters, which in turn makes people keep coming back for more.

Players can also make Miis interact with each other. By picking a Mii up and dropping it on another, they can socialize. Odds are randomly generated if an interaction goes well. Miis can become friends, enemies or even sweethearts. Relationships between them can vary, and Miis can even feel differently about one another, which allows for one-sided relationships.

Close friendship can grant special circumstances. Miis will hang out without being prompted, can live with each other and can level up their friendship. If Miis in a romantic relationship get close enough emotionally, they can even get married and have children.

This game goes beyond description. If anyone is on the fence, get this game. It is an excellent creation that has hours of entertainment. Fans are raving, and copies are flying off the shelf.
