Epic Games released a free version of their Battle Royale game, Fortnite.  Since then, the game has literally blown up with millions of people investing in it.

Lately, Battle Royale games have been on the rise.  In this style of game, there is a lobby that starts with one hundred people in a server.  Then, each player is placed in a “party bus” that flies over the game’s map. Each player then has the choice to jump out and land wherever they would like.  The purpose of the game is to be the last person standing; out of one hundred people, only one will get the “victory royale.”

This game seems to be doing everything right, and that’s proven by how much success it is having.  Fortnite is quickly rising to the top of the most popular games list in the world. What really drives people to play the game is the fact that it is free.  This gives anyone the opportunity to try the game out and not worry about wasting their money. There is an option for in-game purchases but they do nothing towards your ability to win games.  These items are strictly cosmetic. For example, players are allowed to buy cool outfits for their character, which are bought through Fortnite’s in-game currency of V-Bucks. 1,000 V-Bucks is the equivalent to $9.99.  There is also an option to buy a “Battle Pass” which is only 950 V-Bucks and it allows players to unlock more in-game experience points and outfits for their character.

Another thing that Epic Games is doing right is their activeness on the game.  They are constantly adding updates and challenges that improve the game and enhance the player’s experience.  The challenges keep players busy, as there are new ones every single day. With the Battle Pass, there is a new list of challenges every week, that allows players to level up their Battle Pass.  When the Battle Pass is purchased, the player starts out at tier one, and when the Battle Pass is completely levelled up and the player has unlocked everything there is to unlock, they will be at tier 100.  New passes come out each season, and each season lasts about six weeks.

In addition to the game’s action-packed gameplay, it is also cross-platform.  This means that players on console can play with their friends who may play on PC.  Not very many games have done this before but Epic Games has perfected it, as it runs smoothly.  Now there’s no excuse to not be able to play with your friends just because they play on “another platform.”

Epic Games has also released the full game on mobile devices.  This absolutely amazed me, because I have never seen anything like this before in my life.  The version on the phone literally plays the same as it would on a console or a PC. I have never seen a company release a full version of a PC game on a mobile device.

Fortnite is one of the most talked about games out right now.  I personally have seen people playing it everywhere, whether it be on their phones or their mobile game laptops.  Wherever they are, they have the ability to play the game. It seems like a worldwide addiction, and needless to say, this includes me as well.

Season four of the game just released on Tuesday, May 1, and the players received it well.  Compared to other seasons, this one has an immense amount of content coming with it, much more than the other seasons combined.  There are a variety of different skins, emotes, gear, etc. that players can try to unlock before the season ends. It gives them an incentive to keep coming back to play.  A system like this makes playing the game feel rewarding when they are constantly levelling up and earning new gear for their in-game avatar. After a player completely levels up their character, there are then extra challenges for them to complete.  This keeps players in the game that already finished levelling up. There will always be new challenges to complete with this game.

That being said, Epic Games is doing something right with Fortnite.  They are generating millions of dollars through a game that they are giving out to anyone who wants it for free.  This game is a must play for anyone in the gaming community. There is literally nothing to lose with this game because again, it’s free.
