Drankenstein Infinity

Drankenstein+Infinity

Of the albums and mixes I’ve taken the time to listen to this year, Bird Peterson’s Drankenstein Infinity is easily one of the more creative. While working on the Dope Boys remix for Diplo’s Gucci Mane mix, Peterson started playing around with the idea of combining southern rap and trance. He made five of these mixes (Drankensteins 1-5,) and recently released them as a collection, named Drankenstein Infinity.

The rappers that can be heard on Drankenstein Infinity are exclusively from the south. From Atlanta, you’ll hear artists like Ludacris, T.I., Andre 3000, and Gucci Mane. You’ll also hear New Orleans rappers like Magic and Birdman and Texans like Ginuwine and Mike Jones. Every verse played heard in Drankenstein is placed over one or more trance samples. Many of them may be new to listeners, but a few are well known, the most recognizable being Darude’s “Sandstorm.”

For fans of The Dirty South, Drankenstein Infinity is a must listen. Production quality is top notch, as are the lyrics, flow, and synth lines that are used in it. I was both surprised and slightly bummed when I finished it for the first time; it was something I both expected and hoped would go on, well, infinitely. If you plan on listening to Drankenstein, make sure you’re in it for the long haul; the mix lasts for over two and a half hours.
