Atlanta Falcons set to dominate
The Atlanta Falcons will lay the smack down in this year’s Super Bowl to win their first Lombardi trophy
February 2, 2017
The stands are silent as the final play is made. The fans watch the ball soar through the air, as if in slow motion, when suddenly, Julio Jones leaps up to make the catch. Touchdown Falcons! Jones just gave the team their first Lombardi trophy.
It’s obvious that the Atlanta Falcons are in it to win it this season, with an 11-5 record, and placing 1st in the NFC South. They’re ready to stomp through the Patriots and be a number one contender from now on in the NFL.
Falcon quarterback Matt Ryan needs to bring his MVP-level style of play to the Super Bowl this year against Tom Brady and the four-time Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots if the Falcons want a chance at winning Super Bowl LI.
The Falcons are one of the most popular teams this season, crushing most of the teams they have played in the postseason so far. They even outscored two of the hottest teams in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Ryan has the ability to throw over 700 yards without throwing any interceptions, but a good quarterback needs a receiver to compliment his abilities, and Ryan has Jones. He is the first player in NFL history to receive 150-plus yards with two touchdowns in only two games. At 6’3, weighing 220 pounds, these stats are basically expected. According to the Career Stats page on the NFL official web page, Jones has 83 receptions for 1,403 yards, scoring six touchdowns. Fans should expect a great game with a ton of action in this year’s Super Bowl game.
The Patriots have also had an impressive season this year as Brady is 4-0 against the Falcons with a 9-1 touchdown to interception rate, according to an article written on Super Bowl Nation. However, Brady has a history of struggling against pass rushing defences. Former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, currently the defensive coordinator for the Falcons, will surely find a way to push Brady out of his comfort zone.
Overall, the game should be pretty close all around. The two teams both have great offenses but mediocre defenses. That means that the Falcons offense is better than the Patriots defense, and that the Patriots offense is better than the Falcons defense. This is a formula for an action packed, high scoring game. I predict that this game will go all the way down to the wire, maybe even a few overtimes. One or two plays, or maybe even a defensive stop, may be the only difference between who wins this game. All the Falcons need to do is rush and give Brady some pressure in the pocket as he is trying to pass the ball, and force him to throw it out of play every time. Make them win by running the ball. Since the game will be high-scoring, I estimate a Falcons win at 56-50.
The Falcons deserve a trophy this year, the players and coaches have been working awfully hard to develop their program, and their fans have been there to cheer them on since the beginning. It’s time to knock Brady and the Patriots off the top and become the new “hot” team in the NFL. I hope the Falcon defense plays with a fire in their hearts, and completely takes down any Patriot that tries to run past them. The Patriots won’t know what hit them this year, literally.
