Brooklyn Nine-Nine
November 3, 2014
Are you looking for a new spin on boring, hour long procedural cop dramas? Brooklyn Nine-Nine promises something altogether different with a memorable cast and quirky but clever writing.
The show stars Saturday Night Live veteran Andy Samberg as the gifted but immature Officer Jake Peralta. Jake works alongside his fellow officers at the Ninety-Ninth Precinct in Brooklyn, New York. The show, now it its second season, takes a look at the day to day operations of the police station. Some of the crazy situations the detectives find themselves in include going undercover in the Italian mafia, gunning one another down with paint-balls, and having to babysit a grown man acting like a 10 year old. Simply put, the dialogue between characters inside the office is entertaining. Each detective has a distinct personality and we get to see how each one interacts with the other. From the “Will They, Won’t They” relationship between Jake and Amy to Detective Peralta and Captain Holt’s witty repertoire and occasional competition, the character writing is solid.
Overall Brooklyn Nine-Nine succeeds in capturing the goofy tone that Andy Samberg is known for. His comedic style mixes perfectly with the action elements normally present in most cop shows these days. Brooklyn Nine-Nine premieres new episodes every Tuesday Night on Fox, and I sincerely suggest that you tune in.
