Senior, Erin McEneny sends an aggressive free ball over the net.

Wakefield High School’s varsity volleyball team started off the season with a bang. As a captain and starter, Erin McEneny has the huge job of keeping her team together and keeping them motivated throughout the game.

Currently, Wakefield has a record of nine and one in conference and is ranked sixty first in the state.

“I believe we will be conference champs,” McEneny said, “and [make it to] at least two rounds of states if not more.  We’re really close-knit because we have all been playing together for a long time,” McEneny said, “and even though most of us are seniors and we’re going to be gone next year, it’s a lot of fun this year”.

McEneny believes the volleyball team is doing very well this season as they progress throughout the year. Junior Brynn Moore is very tall which is good for the team because she can block and hit at a greater height, posing a greater threat to the opponents

Moore, being a team leader, helps out the team by being very encouraging and helpful, on and off the court. She is a starter on the team and has many high hopes for this year.

“We are going all the way this season,” Moore said.

These two girls carry the team on their shoulders but this wouldn’t be possible without the help of the guidance from their coaches Cynthia Terrell and Stacy Shannon.

Volleyball is a team effort and that’s what Wakefield does, works as a team. This is what is fueling the team during this season.

“Hard work [is] focusing on the game and never letting a small loss or any loss affect us in the long term,” said McEneny.

Bryon Morton has been to every home game and some away games and gives all the support he can for this team.

Morton said.
“Our team has always been the best,” said Morton.  “This was an easy season because of our team’s ability to work together.

Without the support of the Wackos it would have been more difficult for Wakefield to have the successful season it has had.

Senior fan Justin DeCooman came to his first volleyball games this season.

“Right off the bat, I could see the team’s cohesiveness.” DeCooman said, “This was an obvious factor in the team’s great season.”
