“The Great Gatsby” has been a well-loved classic novel for years. Book lovers everywhere greatly appreciate this amazing tale of love and tragedy. Following the novel’s success, many movie adaptations came out, and now the brilliant book is taking center stage at Paper Mill Playhouse for a musical rendition of the book.
On Oct. 12, 2023, the new musical took the stage for its first performance. The music in the show is a soothing mix of jazz for the iconic 1920s age, as well as some hip-hop mixed throughout. Along with the music, the choreography is very relevant to the Jazz Age, but it also incorporates many modern elements of dance to create a terrific blend and make the dancing as incredible as the music. The show is directed by Marc Bruni and was written by Kait Kerrigan, Jason Howland and Nathan Tyson.
The heartbreaking story is about the illusion of the American dream and how a self-made millionaire named Jay Gatsby fell in love with a girl, Daisy Buchanan, in his youth and is trying to be reunited with her so they can live happily ever after, or so he thinks.
Jeremy Jordan, playing Jay Gatsby, has performed at the Paper Mill Playhouse before as Jack Kelly in “Newsies,” which later moved to Broadway. He has also played Clyde in “Bonnie and Clyde the Musical” on Broadway and in the hit Disney Channel series “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure” as Varian.
Eva Noblezada, playing Daisy Buchanan, has also played a couple of very famous and unique roles, including Eurydice in “Hadestown” and Kim in the revival of “Miss Saigon” on Broadway. She just departed from “Hadestown” after being Eurydice for four years.
These memorable roles will be taken on by these astonishing stars, and knowing their excellent Broadway history, they will crush these performances and make the musical an amazing sight for anyone lucky enough to see it.
