Mockingjay Part I
January 9, 2015
Finding herself in District 13, after escaping The Hunger Games, Katniss is pressured into becoming the icon for a mass rebellion against the Capitol. She fights to save Peeta and her beloved city of Panem. For a movie being based off a book, they held true to the original plot. While Part 1 may not be as action packed as the other Hunger Games movies, it provides a perfect build up for the exciting second half. This section focuses mainly on Katniss’s struggle with the responsibility of being the Mockingjay and the impact of propaganda on conflict. Part 2 should feature more fight scenes and appearances of the Capitol’s horrific creations.
The actors in this movie were very well cast but Jennifer Lawrence seemed to decline a bit since her first appearance in the series, the emotions seemed a bit more forced than they had been in the previous movies. Despite this there were still some very compelling scenes in this movie. For example when Katniss visited the hospital patients and they looked towards her for hope. Overall this was an extremely well done movie that sets the tone for the soon-released Mockingjay Part 2.
