RICKEA WHITE, Special Education Department
Q: What made you decide to teach?
A: It was not in a straight path to teaching originally. I went into the Army and I didn’t like it, so once I finished with the Army I got into teaching because I’ve always liked to help people and I have been teaching ever since
Q: What does your typical workday look like?
A: I arrive at the school at 6:50 and assist other teachers. First period I have Math 1, second period I have English 1, third period is my planning period, and fourth period I have Math 2.
Q: Tell me about your background.
A: I originally enlisted in the army as an avionics mechanic. I received my teaching license from East Carolina and shortly after, I started teaching at West Millbrook Middle School and stayed there for about three years and came to Wakefield this year.
Q: What brought you to Wakefield?
A: I did numerous amounts of research and I loved the dynamics of the school. I could also tell that with working with special education, the kids here at Wakefield were getting a quality education and that was something I wanted to be a part of.
Q: What do you like to do outside of school?
A: I have a very big family so a lot of my time is spent either at a baby shower or a cookout, so spending time with my family and friends is mostly what my time consists of outside of school.
Q: What is your advice for students taking your class(es)?
A: Be completely honest and if you need help, don’t be afraid to say something.
