Similar to years past, 2022 was full of fantastic memes. With 2022 being just as hectic as the past two years, the world provided plenty of comedy. Additionally, the internet and its’ users never failed to come up with their own intriguing humor. From jokes about Ohio to spontaneous humor, we take a look at a few of the most notable memes of 2022.
Spontaneous humor is really just a way of describing many of the memes we’ve seen this year. These sorts of memes are very random and often involve loud noises and fast videos. There’s no good way of describing such varied and fast-paced content, but it’s generally very random, and was a large part of the year’s humor.
Another huge meme this year was the rating system or memes that basically said “they’re a 10 but…” These memes were prevalent on a number of platforms, like TikTok and Instagram, and often lead to people coming up with some pretty wild combinations for a partner. This format was especially interesting because of how diverse it could get. It could really be molded to fit any number of interests or traits, like appearance or weird habits. There really was no limit to where this meme could be taken.
The last meme we’ll cover is world events. Thanks to some of the crazy things that happened in 2022, we got plenty of meme material. Inflation and soaring gas prices lead people to joke about not being able to afford certain things, or use phrases like “in this economy?!” We also got plenty of meme material thanks to Elon Musk and his historic purchase of Twitter. Elon has always been quite the character, and his acquisition of the social media site only cemented this. Along with those, we also had the defamation trial between renowned actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The trial got a lot of media attention, and in turn, memes. These memes had their moment in mid-2022 and fell off about a month after the trial ended. There were many more memes this year, too many to count really, so covering them all would be very hard. However, the humor the internet provides never fails to make us laugh, and without them, things on the world wide web might look very different. Here’s to many more great memes in 2023!
