Whether you call them flare leggings, yoga pants or bell bottoms, we can all agree that this comfy take on the 1970s essential has seen a significant resurgence in 2022. Many account this to the recent rise in the Y2K style, which was popular during the early 2000s.
Today, many brands are adding a fresh take to the iconic pants. For example, Aerie and American Eagle popularized the crossover waistband. Recently, they’ve been adapted to have pockets, slits, high-end fabrics and include high-waisted bands for the maximum amount of comfort. Many also enjoy wearing flare leggings for their adaptable style. They can be worn anywhere from a quick grocery store run to low-impact workouts. They can even be worn when you are just relaxing at home.
Sonny and Cher can be thanked for the initial rise of flare pants around 1965, but earlier this year, popular influencer Emma Chamberlain began styling them into her outfits which inspired others to wear them. Various Hollywood stars including Hailey Beiber, Kendall Jenner and Rihanna also decided to hop on the trend this year.
Maybe this take on the iconic skinny-leg legging will continue to trend in the new year or it will be replaced by a new style. Only time will tell.
