SARAH MARTINKO, ESL

Q: What subject do you teach and why do you enjoy it?

A: I teach ESL because I love helping kids who are new to the school and figuring out how to maneuver when you don’t know a language.

Q: How did you get into teaching?

A: I have a lot of teachers in my family and I love helping kids.

Q: What’s your educational background?

A: I went to Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I graduated from Western Carolina University. Go cats!

Q: What’s one impact you want to make on your students?

A: I want them to feel like they belong here even if they don’t know the language.

Q: Have you always wanted to become a teacher?

A: No, I wanted to be a dentist. However, I have a fear of blood, so that was eliminated. So, I decided to be a teacher and I do not regret that decision at all.

Q: If you weren’t a teacher what would you be?

A: Honestly, I don’t know. Maybe I’d work at a PetSmart because I like animals.

Q: What do you like to do outside of school?

A: [I like to] sleep. I also like to read, ironic cause I’m an English teacher, right?

Q: What is your favorite song or music artist?

A: I really like Def Leppard. I also really like Greta Van Fleet. I love Greta Van Fleet, they are my favorite band.

Q: Anything else you want people to know about you?

A: Feel free to talk to me, I may seem scary, but I’m not. I’m just antisocial.
