Forces of Nature

All answers provided by student Abigail Weaver.

Q: When did this club begin?

A: The club began just after the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year.

Q: Who is this club’s main demographic?

A: This club is targeted toward all students, especially those who are passionate about improving the environment and share a love of nature by making the world a better place. We aim to help improve the world in which we live by bringing not only people who already care about the environment, but also helping people who don’t know so much about it stay informed. After all, there is no planet B.

Q: What is this club’s main goal?

A: The club’s main goal is to better the area around us such as picking up trash, recycling, planting trees, or challenging students to conserve energy at home. Our goal is to help the world thrive and flourish one step at a time. That will make the most lasting impact.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish by the end of this year?

A: One of our main focuses this year is to start paper recycling up again. As many people here know, recently our school has stopped recycling, but we still have all these recycling bins in the classroom. By the end of this year, we will have a team of students helping bring PAPER recycling back, classroom by classroom. An important thing to note is that we are very limited on what we are able to recycle at this school since it requires a lot of funding to recycle things such as plastic bottles. The only thing we can recycle is printer paper, not construction paper.

Q: What are your biggest motivators in this club?

A: My biggest motivators for starting this club were to help other students understand how important it is to take care of the world we live in because of how much humans have negatively impacted our surroundings. Also, not long after presenting this idea to a potential advisor, I found out that we had an environmental club before the pandemic. This is sort of a way to bring back what we had lost and create something new and special with amazing and passionate environmentalists.

Q: Lastly, what do students do in this club?

A: Students will do many things in this club. Mainly, we will focus on recycling, fun activities to encourage students to help improve the environment, and much more.
