Student musician and senior Jackson Jeffreys, also known by his artist name J Tru, currently has music available on Apple Music, Spotify and SoundCloud

“My style is a variety of things,” Jeffreys said. “I really like to be mixed and melodic.”

Jeffreys attributes his passion for music to his family.

“I first got into music when I was little,” Jeffreys said. “My parents played a lot of music around the house. My sister rapped when she was my age and really got me into rapping.”

Though he has been writing, producing and releasing singles for a few years, Jeffreys released his first EP “Nova”’ in 2020. He discussed the creative benefits of staying home during the pandemic.

“[Quarantine] actually helped because I had a lot of time. I had a lot of things to pick from, different topics for songs,” Jeffreys said.

I really like to be mixed and melodic.

Also over quarantine, Jeffreys had the opportunity to perform for the Grammy nominee sister duo Chloe x Halle during an Instagram Live. Jeffreys posted a recording of this performance and within the caption wrote “the amount of time I take just writing and perfecting my craft and the fact that THEY LOVED IT means I’m doing something right.”

As he continues his senior year, Jeffreys is hopeful about his future and the future of his music.

“Going off to college I hope to expand my platform and get more followers,” said Jeffreys. “As I’m doing my education, still doing [music] on the side and if it blows up, it blows up.”
