The Sirens are an upcoming multi-genre band made up of 6 members, including Wakefield seniors Conor Merrin and Justin Cristinziano. Merrin plays piano and saxophone for the group and Cristinzino is the drummer/percussionist.

Merrin described his personal musical style, as well as the group’s diverse sound.

“Individually, I’d say my style is jazzy because I play saxophone and keyboard and that’s one of the genres that both of those instruments share,” Merrin said. “As a band, we play a lot of different things. We love to play indie songs, some classic rock, and also some funk.”

Cristinziano shared the story of how he got involved with the group when Violet Worzella, lead vocalist and guitarist, reached out to him.

“The Sirens were already in a band, they played for School of Rock. They ended up quitting there and decided they wanted to be something on their own,” Cristinziano said. “Violet hit me up [said] ‘hey, we need a drummer,’ so I started playing for them.”

Though the group does not have any music out right now, they have a YouTube channel where they share performances and covers both as a group and as individual members.

As more opportunities to perform live music reopen amidst the pandemic, Merrin explained the band’s goals for the future.

“Right now we’re trying to get more gigs and build up our reputation so people go ‘Oh The Sirens, I know who they are,’” Merrin said.

Be sure to follow The Sirens on Instagram and YouTube to keep up with their future shows and releases!
