The Lucky Ones

The Lucky Ones are a local rock band consisting of Wakefield students Justin Cristinziano and Sam Coury, along with additional members Addie Gibbons and Harry Logan. Cristinziano and Coury offered some insight into the band as well as their personal connections with music.

Cristinziano, senior, is the band’s drummer and percussionist. He shared a playful story about how he first began drumming.

“I’ve been into music my entire life,” Cristinziano said. “I started playing an instrument, sort of, when my brother introduced me to pen tapping. Eventually, my parents replaced the pens with a drum kit.”

Coury, junior, is the lead singer and also plays lead and rhythm guitar for the group. Although he is dedicated to the band, Coury also has solo music

“My style individually is usually more indie, chill, and laid back,” Coury said. “We still play some of that as a band, but it’s also a lot of rock.

According to Coury, the first steps in the creation of the band began after Cristinziano found his song.

“The band got together when Justin texted me after he heard my song on Spotify, and it was just instant chemistry,” Coury said. “We went from there and started adding more people until we got four.”

Cristinziano, who also plays drums for another band called The Sirens, discussed the challenges of balancing senior year and his passion for music.

“It’s hard for sure. With college apps, I really don’t have any time to sit down,” Cristinziano said. “Between all my hobbies and my work, I’m always moving around, but I love it. It’s a challenge but it’s fun.”

Right now, the band is mainly playing at local music hot spot Bella Music during a weekly event called Wide Open Mic, during which their performances are live-streamed through Facebook.

“We play open mics a lot,” Cristinziano said.“It’s a good way to get our name out there. Right now, we’re trying to just start gigging more frequently and have a set of places we can play.”

As live music continues to reopen, both members are optimistic about the band’s future.

“We’re trying to book at Pepper’s Tavern, so hopefully that’ll be within the next month,” Cristinziano said. “Our big goal is to play Friday Night on White next year, and I think we can do it by then.”

Coury also mentioned plans for the group to release music online.

“We’re hoping to record an EP soon and get some of our covers and a couple of originals we have out there, so more people know how we sound,” Coury said.

Be sure to check out The Lucky Ones on Instagram to keep up with their latest updates and upcoming shows.

“You should definitely listen to our music because it’s fun to know musicians around the school,” Coury said. “It’s always cool to make friends through music.”
