To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

In 2018 Netflix released many original movies, some of the most popular involved teenage love stories. There were three produced this year: “Sierra Burgess is a Loser”, “The Kissing Booth” — and the best one in my opinion — “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.”

The main character from “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” Lara Jean, is a high school junior who has been writing letters to her crushes since she could remember. Lara planned for these love letters to remain in a box, tucked away in her closet, till the end of time. Kitty, her younger sister, had other plans. She sent out the letters, igniting the flame of an amazing teenage love story, that teenagers alike, will swoon over for years to come.

Peter Kavinsky, the very attractive love interest to Lara Jean, has a goal to make his ex-girlfriend jealous by “dating” Lara Jean. It took some effort but Peter convinces Lara Jean to be in a staged relationship with him. This pretend relationship quickly turned into something that neither of them had expected. Peter and Lara, the unlikely pair, melts viewers hearts with their outstanding love story.

There is more than just the amazing storyline that has people raving about this movie. The fact that Lara Jean and her siblings are half-Korean, half white is a major plus! (Breaking stereotypes, thank you Netflix!) The best part is that Lara Jean never loses herself, or her friend Chris in the movie; she remains herself even when she starts meeting new people in a different crowd. This is the first movie I’ve seen where a boy doesn’t come between friends. Chris is there supporting her the entire time, which is very refreshing to see.

Overall, “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a movie that I could watch time and time again, and still get that warm feeling I got the first time I watched it. The movie is very relatable, from Lara Jean’s messy room to how she stays in on Friday nights with her younger sister. I can’t wait for the next Netflix teen romance movie to come out! It will be hard to top this one.
