Over the past few years, celebrities have been looking for ways to be a part of the sports industry, leading them to buy ownership of sports clubs. These famous faces include Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Sir Lewis Hamilton, who has been knighted following his recent success in Formula One racing. These celebrities are striving to make an impact by growing the success of the teams, even though they’re relatively new to them. These celebrities buying sports clubs aren’t just benefiting themselves to gain publicity, but are helping the team succeed while providing support for the sports industry.

Back in 2021, two famous actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought ownership of the Welsh soccer team, Wrexham. Since then, they have been promoted two times in a row, now playing in League 1, the second-highest division of English soccer. These past three years have had remarkable success for the team, thanks to the commitment and support of Reynolds and McElhenney. They have not only brought in money to help improve the team but have also signed new players, improved the atmosphere around the stadium and encouraged fans to believe in the team.

With the new joy surrounding the team, they are looking for further success. Fans are renewed with hope, as two consecutive promotions have brightened spirits after a long, winding road of shortcomings. Wrexham is regarded as the oldest club in Wales, starting back in 1864. Although the club started small, it’s now blooming with optimism, thanks to the overwhelming support from celebrities. Not only have Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney been seen at the sports games, but celebrities like Will Ferrell and Hugh Jackman have also been seen at the games. This amazing support from celebrities has allowed the team to reach for the stars and has been one of the main factors to the team’s success.

Another celebrity who has bought ownership of a sports club is Formula One driver Sir Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion has been one owner of the Denver Broncos for three seasons now and has been leaving an impact on the sporting world from the start. Not only is he hoping to see the Denver Broncos succeed, but he is advocating for human rights on a global scale. This can lead to the sports industry not only growing in fanbase but in moral principles as well.

Even though the Broncos are struggling to reach the NFL playoffs at the moment, Hamilton is still honored to be part of the team. He finds that joining the team can help him further pursue his goal of worldwide equality and bring greater diversity to teams. Hamilton also aims to address the lack of Black ownership among teams and plans to open the door for further expansion.

Celebrities buying shares of these teams not only benefit themselves but can help the sporting community thrive, causing the fans and the players to reach goals that weren’t previously achievable. These ownerships spread awareness for many issues, such as human rights, which helps the sporting industry grow not only in size but also in its morals. These celebrities, among others, are paving the way for a multitude of other famous faces to buy ownership, creating a new and improved sporting world that has never been seen before.
