New Year’s resolutions: we all do them — or, at least, we try to. My resolution for 2024? To put self-care first. The trials and tribulations of junior year and the first semester of senior year meant that self-care was often on the back burner for me. So, here are three self-care practices I plan to implement in 2024 that you can do too.
- Reading more
I LOVE buying books. Every time I buy a book, I think, This is it! Third-grade voracious reader Emily is back! But then, that book sits on my shelf untouched while I spend my free time watching “The Office” or “Parks and Recreation” for the eighteenth time. But reading improves memory, reduces stress, builds esteem, and above all, allows for a break from screens. So, this year, I will be implementing a good book into my self-care routine!
- Reconnecting with nature
This can be as simple as going for a walk or doing your homework outside. When you feel overwhelmed and stressed, fresh air boosts your mood, clears your mind and increases your energy levels — a great way to practice self-care and productivity and get a dose of Vitamin D.
- Making time for skincare every night
I love my skincare routine. But when I’ve been studying for hours and feel exhausted, sometimes my routine feels like a chore, and I skip some of the steps. As part of my New Year’s resolution, I want to stay on top of my skincare routine to improve my overall mental well-being and make me feel more confident.
Well, there you have it! My plans to practice self-care in 2024. You should give it a try also!
