Selena Gomez
Texas-born and raised artist Selena Gomez is best known for being a remarkable actress and singer. She began her acting career at just the age of seven on the children’s show “Barney & Friends” and later went on to star as Alex Russo in “Wizards of Waverly Place” as a teenager. Afterward, at the age of 20, the release of her debut single “Come & Get It” heralded the beginning of her music career being a new pop sensation. But behind all the fame, there’s always a side to an artist that no one has ever seen before.
On Nov. 4, 2022, a documentary named “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” was released. The film uncovers her relationship with fame and the various struggles and battles that Gomez once encountered and had to fight. Gomez talks about her journey with the autoimmune disease called Lupus. She shares her struggles regarding mental health, with her Bipolar disorder being a main focus. Gomez explains that she went a long time without the mental health support she needed because she didn’t quite understand what she was feeling. The documentary also portrays how Gomez is finding a way to make things better for herself, and how fighting all of her lows make her the person she is now.
Gomez makes sure to use her platform for good by bringing attention to mental health issues. She believes that numerous people don’t have access to resources to effectively support their mental health so she founded the Rare Impact Fund; this broadens access to mental health education and services for people all across the globe. It is Gomez’s greatest dream to leave behind a positive impact and it’s safe to say that she is doing just that.
