For Mariah Amani Buckles, professionally known as Mariah the Scientist, 2022 has been a year to remember. Formerly a pre-med student at St. John’s University, Buckles is on track to take the R&B world by storm in the future.

From humble beginnings in Atlanta, Georgia, Buckles began experimenting in music with friends in 2018. She uploaded her first EP, “To Die For,” that same year on Soundcloud. Buckles was later signed to RCA Records in 2019, and released her first full album “Master.” Often singing about themes like romance, mental health, and self-growth, many fans adore her for the rawness, creativity and relatability of her music. Speaking of romance, Buckles is dating fellow musician, Young Thug, who she regularly talks about in her music.

After teaming up with R&B and Hip-Hop greats such as Lil Baby, Young Thug and Trippie Redd, Buckles began her rise to stardom. This year, she released a four-track EP, that included fan favorite, “Spread Thin”; which was used in a viral trend on TikTok. Buckles also opened for other artists this year, including Coldplay in the Mercedes Benz stadium and Rod Wave in his national arena tour. Additionally, she performed at Coachella for two weekends. As of December 2022, she has 2.3 million listeners on Spotify.

Many fans, myself included, are excited to see how Mariah the Scientist will continue to grow as a successful artist in the new year.
