Laura Morgan, senior
What are you most proud of when considering this artwork?
I am most proud of the blending in the sky, the orange doesn’t make the blue tones in the clouds/sky too muddy. Also, the use of different values and tones to create depth throughout the piece.
Where do you find inspiration as an artist?
I find it in other artists whether they be students around me or famous ones; this art work was based off the artist Caroline Jasper.
When did you begin drawing? What made you begin?
I started drawing when I was really little; started with stick figures and realized I couldn’t do that very well so I started painting objects and landscapes. I started because there wasn’t much to do when my older siblings were at school so I drew to fill up my time.
What’s your favorite piece of art made by another person?
Irises in Monet’s Garden/the Artists Garden at Giverny by Claude Monet
How have you progressed throughout your life as an artist? (e.g. mediums, style, inspiration)
I have always enjoyed acrylic paint being quick drying and relatively cheap. I definitely enjoy Impressionism with small defined brushstrokes instead of completely blending. I used to try to paint more realistically but throughout the last 4 years of art classes I found myself not liking the way I painted. Now I like creating semi-realistic artwork because it seems more interesting to me.
