Q: What do you teach?
A: Horticulture and animal science
Q: What do you like about horticulture and animal science?
A: I love plants. I grew up working at a greenhouse so I’ve always wanted to do something with plants. I grew up around animals. Most of the animals at the school I’ve either helped get, or donated to the school.
Q: What college did you go to?
A: Wake Technical College and NC State for my undergraduate and NC State for my master’s degree.
Q: Who inspired you to teach?
A: Mrs. Riedel, the former horticulture teacher [at Wakefield].
Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: This is my first year teaching.
Q: What were you doing this time last year?
A: I was out on a soybean field counting caterpillars for my master’s degree.
Q: What hobbies do you have outside of school?
A: I like woodworking, running, fishing, and anything outdoors.
Q: What’s your favorite television show?
A: Parks and Rec.
Q: What’s the best teaching story you have?
A: Showing the students some insects and having them scream around the classroom.
