Healthcare heroes

With all of the chaos that 2020 consisted of, there were plenty of people who rose to the occasion to help others. But who was the most outstanding individual of 2020? Well, actually that’s quite simple. Nobody was. A profession took that title, but healthcare is so much more than just that.

Every single healthcare professional has been working day in and day out to save the lives of those afflicted with COVID-19 and other illnesses that have become increasingly harder to treat due to limited resources, staff and space. There is no way to justify picking just one of these heroes to call the best. All of them risk their lives every day to save others’ so it would not be fair to just praise one. These people sacrifice so much to keep others safe, knowing that they could end up paying the ultimate price.

Yet these individuals still put on a smile, gear up with their PPE and compassion to go to work and face all of the challenges that come with a new day. So to all of our healthcare workers, I say this:

There is no word, gesture, gift or title that can be awarded to commend you all for what you have done so far and what you are continuing to do. There is no action we as people can take to express our gratitude for you. So many of you have sacrificed seeing your loved ones, relaxing on the weekends and even paid the ultimate price to aid those in need. You are truly an inspiration to everyone and the title of hero just can’t encompass all of that.

We can not overlook what you have done by naming someone the person of the year. Because the reality is the road ahead is a rocky one, and we could not have gotten this far without all of you.
