LIONEL PARKER, Special Education Department
Q: What made you decide to teach?
A: When I was getting out of a community college I was undecided until I went to a four-year college and I took an intro to a teaching class course. Then I knew I wanted to teach something.
Q: What does your typical workday look like?
A: From morning until afternoon its a full day. On Wednesdays, my favorite day, we have animal science.
Q: Tell me about your background.
A: I’m from Virginia and I graduated from Norfolk State University, an HBCU.
Q: What brought you to Wakefield?
A: Last year I came from Virginia and applied to Wake County. This was the first school to interview me and I took the job.
Q: What do you like most about Wakefield so far?
A: By far the staff because everyone is so helpful. The students are also a blast to work with, we had ten students last year and three graduated so we have seven now.
Q: What do you like to do outside of school?
A: I like sports, football in particular. Sports and Youtube.
Q: Do you have any crazy teaching stories?
A: Last year we were doing animal science and one of the chickens laid an egg right in my hand, that was pretty cool because I never had that happen before.
Q: What is your advice for students taking your class(es)?
A: Honestly just try your best, I’d rather have your best effort forward than getting everything correct because eventually, it will be correct.
