Time in high school flies by in a weird way. The average day in class seems like it couldn’t go by any slower, but while reflecting on the past few years as graduation approaches, the time seems to have gone by fast. The mundane memories merge together with some notable events sticking out, bookmarked by the photos in my phone or the albums I listened to at the time. Memories of middle school aren’t as clear anymore, but I still remember the big things, and I think it’s important to recognize and appreciate the good times as they happen and to make an effort to remember them.

My time at Wakefield, like most peoples’, has been a mix of good times and bad times. That’s normal for high school. You begin to develop a sort of bond with your school after being there for so long. I’m ready to move on to college, and I don’t feel it now, but I expect to miss lots of aspects of high school once I’m gone.

As far as advice goes, based on my own experiences, I’d say take school seriously in the early years of high school and challenge yourself with your classes, but know your limits. Some stress is necessary but don’t overload yourself; make sure to leave yourself time to explore your interests and develop them into hobbies and skills. Junior year was the hardest academically; most people start picking up harder classes as they set their sights on college, and the work for AP classes can get overwhelming, but keep in mind that a junior year filled with hard work can help secure a lighter senior year, which is a mix of the extremes with college applications and decisions followed by senioritis. Start your college applications over the summer, trust me.

Whether you love or hate your time in high school, it looks like it’s just going to get better. I feel like the sadness of leaving hasn’t hit me yet, who knows when it will, but I’m thrilled to start a new part of my life in college.
