My grandma admires our generation, She talks about all the things we will invent and how passionate we are. She’s hopeful about the government reforms we will create and have created. Our knowledge of technology and communication with the world around us amazes her. She at 64, knows we all have something to learn. And that my generation will change the world as each one does. I believe that we will change it for the better.

Wakefield presented itself as a scary place with 1,500 more people than was at my previous high school. I missed the comfort of being close to my friends and family, with familiar classes, in a familiar place. Even though I was scared, I was immediately greeted by nice people that made sure I found my niche. I had a few lonely days, but I found my place in the school through swim team, clubs, and my favorite class, creative writing. I found my love for writing in this class, and I wanted to continue to pursue throughout my high school career. I didn’t join Newspaper until my senior year, and I still regret it. I found a group of friends that I never had before. They supported me through college applications and celebrated me when I found out I was going to my dream school, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I learned to use my voice, and I haven’t stopped since. I’ve faced my fears of coming out as a lesbian and voicing my opinion on politics. Being able to use my voice is the most empowering thing I’ve done throughout my high school career. I’ve never been given a platform like this to share my opinions, and I am so glad to utilize it.

Throughout my high school career, I faced challenges both socially and academically. I’m glad to have finally ended my high school experience in a class where I can express my opinions. In high school, remember to take care of your mental health, love yourself, and cherish the moments now.
