The annual senior vs. junior powderpuff showdown consists of high tensions, intense cheers, and strong battles due to the competitiveness between the seniors and juniors.  This game happened on October 22 under the lights in Wolverine Stadium and fans could  feel the intensity flowing through the air as the seniors were expected to defeat the juniors in a hard fought game.

“There are a lot of tensions in the game because the seniors are expected to win,” said senior cheerleader Prince Asonye, “so as a cheerleader for the game it’s our job to get them hype to beat the juniors.”

The powderpuff girls were practicing a couple times a week to prepare themselves for the intense game.  They worked long and hard practices to perfect their offensive plays and defensive strategies so both teams can be set on making it a great powderpuff football game.  Even though the seniors had more experience, they didn’t want to underestimate the juniors.

“As seniors we know the juniors are going to come out strong,” said senior defenseman Hannah Emerson, “so to prepare for them we have been working really hard on our defensive shape to stop them as much as possible.”

The coaches for both teams were working with the girls to teach them basic football skills and important plays that can give them more of an advantage over one another.  The seniors and juniors were taught how to blitz, throw, catch, and block players.

“As coaches we educated them on the importance of playing as a team and doing the only thing we know best, scoring touchdowns and having fun,” said senior coach Jules Drew.

Coming off a rough loss last year against the now graduated seniors; this year’s seniors were looking for vengeance against the juniors.  Although they feel a rivalry before and during the game, they all know that it’s just for fun and always enjoy their time on the field against each other.
