The Varsity Wakefield Women’s soccer team has had quite a bit of success in the past three years under Coach CJ Komons and they are looking to see improvement once again this year with a mostly veteran roster. Now trying to strive for better than a twelve win season is no easy feat, but the athletes that make up this year’s team seem more than up to the challenge.

For Alexis Feely, senior goalie of the Wolverines, success resides primarily in the preparation.

“The team takes it’s warm-ups very seriously and if we don’t have a good warm up then were not going to play well,” said Feely.  “For me as a goalie it’s especially mental so I have my own little pre-game ritual and if something goes wrong during that time it could throw me off for the rest of the game.”

Tough early season losses can be devastating to a team’s morale, but Feely spoke otherwise.

“Against Jordan a couple weeks ago we came in really hyped up and hungry for a win. We played well but were unlucky when it came to putting balls in the goal. I think by the end of the game we had like five shots bounce off the crossbars and because of that we didn’t feel as bad as we normally feel on a loss.”

The role of captain on the team carries a significantly big weight.

“Mostly it includes keeping everybody level-headed and focused during games and practices.” Kat McDonald said.  “I’m responsible for organizing the team and basically just keeping everybody together on and off the field.”

Overall, the Wakefield women’s soccer team looks more than ready to top the twelve wins that they accomplished last season.
