There’s a conflict in the air about the recent movie, American Sniper.  While some are pleased with the movie and believe Chris Kyle was a hero, others are disgusted by the film.  The movie is about Navy Seal, Chris Kyle, who served four tours overseas in Iraq and killed 160 people.  He was killed in his home state of Texas by Eddie Routh, an Iraqi War veteran who he was trying to help recover from post-traumatic stress disorder, according to nydailynews.com.

Some people feel Kyle was a serial killer for serving his country but I think he was just doing his job and bringing honor to America.  I don’t think anyone would sign up for a job if they knew they would be considered a serial killer.  Kyle served our country well and defended our rights as a war hero.   There is the question, though, if what he did was the moral thing to do, and I believe it was. Kye takes on the job of protecting our soldiers and country so the rest of wont have to.

Kyle even said in an interview, according to BBC.com, that every person he killed he did strongly believe they were bad.  It’s hard to think that what he did was justified, but there are many ethical arguments that support him.  For instance, he was sent to war to complete a mission for our country and with that mission comes the responsibility to protect his brothers in arms at all costs.  Kyle wasn’t just protecting his fellow soldiers and country, but also, Iraqi civilians who were frightened for their lives by Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.

All in all, there are two sides to this conflict, one which embraces Kyle as a patriotic hero and the other one that see him as anything but that.  Kyle is someone we should be thanking for his courage and heroism, not scolding him for a job he was assigned to complete.  People should recognize his bravery and if they can’t see the patriotic person he was, then they should join the military and try and fight in Iraq.  Patriotism is having pride in one’s country and after watching that film it’s obvious to me that Kyle was a very patriotic person.
